About My U.S. 2 History Class
The class your child will be taking with me is U.S. History 2. U.S. 2 is commonly taken during the Junior year and is a year-long course. It is a survey course beginning with the Progressive era of the early 1900's and ending with a study of Modern America. Possible units to be covered 1st Semester: Progressive Era, World War 1, Roaring 20's, the Great Depression, and World War 2. Possible units to be covered 2nd Semester: Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, 1960's, Vietnam and the 1970's and the 1980's to present day (including 9/11). We will investigate the great achievements made by our great country as well as assessing the difficult lessons that we have learned (and are still learning today). We will be approaching our studies through a myriad of lenses . . . political, economic, social, historical, as well as current world issues.
There will be a heavy emphasis on writing, researching, reading, and DOING in this class. I believe that the only way to really learn is to actually DO things in class and at home that will help to create relevant examples of the concepts we discuss. The class grade will be dependent on many factors such as class participation, being prepared for class, doing readings in advance, the creation of multiple multimedia projects, and of course exams that will individually test comprehension of the material. The work in the class will be a combination of group and individual activities activities so that I can observe of the necessary skills of working in a group setting as well as individual growth.
I hope that the information provided will be helpful in giving you some idea as to our course of study. Please feel free to call me to discuss any questions that you may have. My syllabus contains any contact information that you may need. It can be downloaded from the bottom of this page or the Class Expectations page.
Thank you for your time and commitment to your child’s education. I hope to talk with you soon.
